Goodbye Reading Rainbow
Two posts in one day? For this story: yes.
After twenty-six years on the air Reading Rainbow is no more. Even though it has won over two dozen emmys and is a staple in most people’s childhood, funding and cutbacks have made renewing RR difficult. No one is willing to pay for the broadcast rights for the show. Others believe that Reading Rainbow’s decline has to do with the change in children’s programing. Shows are now focusing on learning how to read, while RR was focused on why you should read. A show about the love of books lasted long and today is a bittersweet day. So mark it, today August 28th, 2009 was the last day Reading Rainbow was on the air. We’re going to miss you Le Var.
So tonight in memory of a TV show and a visored man who taught you to love books, read…read like you’ve never read before.
Take a look, it’s in a book.
But don’t take my word for it…

He was our butterfly in the sky.
