Who doesn’t want to punch Cortland Finnegan?

The regular football writing had to be put on hold but how can this happen without making mention of it. Andre Johnson, one of the nicest guys in the world, threw down yesterday. Cortland Finnegan deserves to get hit, on a regular basis. And even though Andre apologized he earned some respect out there. I hate the Titans and it’s been good, as a fan, to see some of the players really start to despise that team. Rivalries are awesome to watch and this is just another thing that’s going to keep the Texans/Titans games more interesting. Andre did everything right, he didn’t get pushed around, fought back, apologized without excuses and is willing to take his punishment like a man. Yeah he lost his cool but he’s got respect. Cortland Finnegan–one of the funniest names in football–is a chump.

Week 3 NFL Picks

I slightly improved last week. I went 11-5 which brings my grand total to 21-11 and 66 %. But the season is still young so onto other things.

At this moment I could be playing quarterback for the Steelers. Ben who? Charlie Batch led the Steelers to a victory over the Titans and looked better than…well, past Charlie Batch.

Who would have known we would have been seeing Kerry Collins this early in the season? And without Vince Young having some sort of mental breakdown. Sometimes I wonder why the Titans don’t just let Collins start. So does Vince Young ever start another game for the Titans this season?

It’s all about quarterbacks this week because my main man Kevin Kolb is playing second banana to Michael Vick. And Andy Reid is looking foolish with the media, he seriously looks like some sort of confused security guard. Ah…enough.

Tennessee at NY Giants

Yuck. Is this game watchable? Tennessee didn’t look good last week and their win over the Raiders is nothing to brag about. I’m going to go with the Giants because of homefield advantage and the fact that they have a Manning at quarterback.

Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay

Is Tampa Bay serious? Tampa Bay being 2-0 is a bit strange. I feel like I’m being Punk’d or something. Only one of these teams can remain undefeated and logic says Pittsburgh will win. I think it’s going to be hard for Josh Freeman to look as good as he did the past two weeks against the Steelers and I have faith that even if it’s David Carr playing quarterback for the Steelers they can score somehow.

Cincinnati at Carolina

It’s obvious that I don’t have a good feel on either of these teams so far. Cincy is proving to be at least decent. Decent enough to give fans hope only to crush them but at least decent. And Carolina needs a QB right now. I’m going to have to go with Cincinnati on this one.

Cleveland at Baltimore

Wow Baltimore. Remember when everybody used to think you were good. Like two weeks ago? Ooooh burn. Seriously though, two weeks ago everybody and their mother thought Baltimore was going to the Super Bowl and now we don’t even know if they can win their division. Luckily enough God has smiled down upon Baltimore and given them a chance to bounce back this week by beating the snot out of Cleveland. Baltimore wins this and if they lose by any chance we know that God hates them.

Dallas at Houston

Quick note I didn’t mention earlier: Dan Fouts and that Ian Somethingorother guy that called the Washington/Houston game last week were horrible. They almost ruined watching a really good game for me, CBS why did you send in the B-Team for my game…?

Anyway, this is the game I’ve been looking forward to for a while. If you are like me and you were an Oilers fan and now a Texans fan you hate Cowboys fans. Cowboys fans are repulsive to me. I hate that team with so much passion and I do admit some of it does come from jealousy. Houston is like the quiet honors student without a homecoming date to Dallas’ pretty cheerleader homecoming queen. But guess what, Sunday is like a high school reunion where the honor student is now very successful and has grown into her looks and the cheerleader is stuck in her life ten years ago when she was popular. The Texans should win this one. The Texans offense is amazing and the defense is decent and despite the stats I believe improving. While the Cowboys are in a funk, have coaching problems and a tendency to beat themselves. Reliant Stadium should be rocking and give the Texans a great home field advantage. This game will be great for Texans everywhere. A good football rivalry is always great and the Texans making the Cowboys 0-3 should make Cowboys fans despise the Texans almost as much as we Houstonians hate the Cowboys. Rivalry time!

San Francisco at Kansas City

This might be my pick for most entertaining game of the week. (For fans outside of Houston.) Kansas City has been showing up to games and San Fran is a good team that can’t afford to lose again. My gut tells me to go with KC at home but I think the 49ers have the edge on the coaching front. This will be a good game but I think Singletary and the 49ers go all out to win.

Detroit at Minnesota

Detroit. I’m going with Detroit here. Shaun Hill is not a horrible quarterback and the Lions are looking pretty good. Minnesota does not look good at all. They might as well just hand the ball to Adrian Peterson on every down. It just might work. I’m picking this as might upset this week.

Buffalo at New England

When will Buffalo win a game? Not this week. New England wins.

Atlanta at New Orleans

Why does this pick seem so easy to make? Atlanta is supposed to be a good team right? New Orleans at home just seems like a sure win against Atlanta. Is Atlanta bad or am I not being fair to them? Only time will tell. Or Sportscenter.

Washington at St. Louis

Donovon McNaab looked good and that Kyle Shanahan offense looks great. I hate Clinton Portis and the running game though, however a bad running game didn’t stop the Shanahan offense in Houston. Washington should win.

Philadelphia at Jacksonville

Vick is back and looks almost better than ever. Poor Kevin Kolb didn’t even have a chance. I hope he gets a chance somewhere because I doubt it will be in Philly now. The Jags are good but I don’t think they can stop the Vick fueled Philly offense. I say Philly wins this one but don’t get on the Philly bandwagon yet.

Oakland at Arizona

Here’s this weeks battle of somebody has to win. I’m going with Oakland because they are actually better than Arizona. That’s right Oakland is better than at least one team in the NFL.

San Diego at Seattle

Seattle might be under-rated and San Diego might be over-rated but I don’t think that equates to Seattle winning (even at home). San Diego should win this one by a couple of touchdowns or they don’t deserve to go to the playoffs.

Indianapolis at Denver

Denver does not have what it takes to beat the football robots from Indianapolis. I doubt Denver’s offense can keep up with Peyton-bot.

NY Jets at Miami

I don’t have a good feeling about this game. Not in a strange ominous way where I think something evil is going to happen but I don’t know who has a substantial advantage. It all depends on which Mark Sanchez shows up to play this week. The average Mark Sanchez or the horrible Mark Sanchez. Nonetheless I’m going with the Jets on this one because I think they have the defensive edge.

Green Bay at Chicago

A good classic old school NFL rivalry…that seems a bit boring at the moment. Monday night seems to bring out the best in teams though. Green Bay will win this one. But what I’m really hoping for is the return of Mike Martz vertical passing game. This would be the perfect time for Martz’ offense to return to form. We’ll see.

Post Week 3

So last week I went 11-5. Not too shabby, I was a little concerned that this week might make a fool out of me, there were a lot of close games and it was really hard to pick some of them. My running total is now 33-15, that’s right under 69%. In the crazy world of NFL that’s not too bad. I’m over 500 and there’d be plenty of teams that would like to win 69% of the time…like my Houston Texans.

Oh brother those Texans need to stop giving up the big run. That defense that I thought was going to be different is slowly going back down that same road…only time will tell. Hopefully for the Texans time will tell before the season is over.

Wow, I was wrong about the Titans bouncing back and beating the way-too-popular Jets. I thought the Titans would smack ‘em around. And right now someone needs to take that team down a notch.

However I was right going with the Bengals over the Steelers. That seemed like a ESP call on my part. This was by far the toughest week to pick. So many teams seemed close on paper and it was tough. Man oh man this week was tough. Not only to pick but as a Texans fan. Oh well, at least the Houston Cougars gave me a good game. If you didn’t see that game, you missed out on some amazing college football. The Coogs will be tough in the future, I hope they can finish and have a solid season.

Indy Beats Miami, Houston wins, Dallas Loses-Great Week!

Sorry Cowboys fans, but out of respect I won’t even pretend that I have no bias against your team. I had a great weekend of football! And when we look at my predictions for week two I went 10 and 6. For week one I was stronger, I was 12 and 4. Which brings my total to 22-10, not too shabby. Once again I would like to say that I’m just a fan, not any kind of expert. (But I am quite awesome).

First of all, my Texans went and fought hard against the Titans. We came away with a victory and Titans fans…I don’t want to hear about the officiating because those calls were legit. It stinks when the calls don’t go your way but that’s how it goes some times. When you look at the numbers that was a tough, gritty football game and both teams could have won it at some point. It makes me angry that this game has little to no national recognition. It was a great game and both teams played well, why does no one care outside of Houston and Tennessee? Titans, good game. I hope this helps out in making this rivalry less lopsided. See you on primetime for MNF!

Tony Romo is a chump. Okay, he’s not a total chump but I think he’s one of the most over-rated QB of the decade. Dallas is a good team and will have a good season but the Texan in me likes to see them lose.

Peyton Manning and the Colts had a good Monday Night outing. I mean, so did the Dolphins but they choked in the end. I’m sure The Big Tuna is not going to be happy about the clock management in the end. If you haven’t been watching fourth quarters this week you need to start paying attention. Man, I’m so stoked about football I’m not even checking my grammar. It’s about to get conversational and ghetto in this blog.

What about the Jets? I know that everyone jumped on the Jets bandwaggon, but after last week I believed in their defense. That is some tough stuff. The Jets are going to have some offense troubles as time goes on but my money is that their defense will be consistent.

Well, it’s getting late and I haven’t said much. Plus I don’t feel like proofreading…where’s that publish button…

NFL Week Two Preview!

All right, all right football fans everyone needs to calm down from week one and buckle in for game two. Last week was, to be honest, a crushing blow to the face of every Houston Texans fan. We were all excited, this was going to be the year we get to the playoffs, people have started to pick Houston as a sleeper team. Even Peter King of SI chose the Texans to win the division. Then we get punched in the mouth by a should-not-have-been-a-surprise Jets defense. Our offense looked confused and destroyed, it did not look like a premier NFL offense. On the bright side our defense looked like they wanted to play football. Instead of phoning it in, the defense showed up, but then they got run over. Sigh.

So this week we play the Tennessee Titans. Great. This team is rough but not as rough as they have been in years past. The Texans can win this one But this is what we need to win.

  • Steve Slaton and Andre Johnson…they were not allowed to play last week. (Tip my hat to you, Rex Ryan).
  • Run stopping defensive line.
  • Good play calling by Kubiak.

We need to establish the running game in order for our offense to work. Our offense is not imaginative. It is really simple. 1. Establish the run. 2. Play-action. If Slaton doesn’t run, Johnson won’t have as many opportunities to catch. Either we establish the run so we can playaction or we expect Kubiak to get creative (hint: he won’t).  Next, we need to stop the run. The Titans are going to come out running, right at us. Our defense looked good but it’s no secret that they need to be better. This week will show how effective this new defense will be. And lastly, Gary Kubiak needs to call good plays. If we are getting blitzed, use two tight ends. If our strategy isn’t working, call some different plays! The Texans will win this game and swing everything back in our favor, if these things are used. Texans by three in a close one.

The other game on my radar today is Pats at the Jets. That Jets team is for real and the Pats looked sloppy Monday Night. This could be intense. Now I’m not a guy that hates the Pats just because they win. I personally like the Pats but the Jets could smack ‘em around to show the rest of the league last week wasn’t a fluke. The Jets win this one.

Week One Picks

Atlanta over the Panthers

Minnesota over Detroit

Green Bay over Cincy

Jacksonville beats the Cards

Oakland barely beats KC

Jets shock the Pats

My man Kevin Kolb and the Eagles beat the Saints

Texans over Titans

Washington embarrasses St. Louis

The Bills beat the Bucs

Seattle goes to work against San Fran

Steelers over Bears

No one wins Cleveland and Denver…okay…Denver

Baltimore over Chargers

Giants over Dallas

and Indy shows Miami how to be consistent winners. That’s it Go Texans, peace!
